Tanya Ovelson, RTC
Registered Therapeutic Counsellor | Anxiety, Trauma, Depression & Life Transitions
Kelowna counsellor with a holistic, non-judgmental approach — for adults and teens navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, and meaningful change.
Tanya Ovelson is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) at Affinity Family Wellness in Kelowna, BC, registered in good standing with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT). She holds a Diploma of Professional Counselling from Rhodes Wellness College, along with certificates as a Life Coach and Wellness Counsellor.
Tanya’s path into counselling reflects the kind of lived wisdom she brings to her clients. After more than a decade as a Certified Nail Technician and Esthetician, she spent years sitting with people, listening deeply, and recognizing that what she cared about most was helping them through the harder parts of their lives, not just the surface. Through her own experiences navigating a pandemic and the challenges that came with it, that calling became impossible to ignore. Her training, paired with her personal history and genuine empathy for the battles that can become catalysts for change, makes her a counsellor who meets people in a real and grounded way.
She works with adults and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and the full texture of life’s challenges. Her approach is empathetic, non-judgmental, and holistic — because she firmly believes there is no one-size-fits-all model in therapy. Tanya draws on Mindfulness practice, Person-Centred therapy, Somatic therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Trauma-Informed counselling, selecting and blending what each individual needs most.
A born-and-raised Kelowna local, Tanya is a wife and mother who grew up performing; competing in Jazz, Tap, and Latin dance, working as a background performer on film sets, singing with worship teams and a local band, and coaching with the Okanagan Sun Junior Football Team. Her love of travel and immersion in different cultures has deepened her appreciation for the full diversity of human experience. All of it informs how she shows up for her clients.
Please note: As an RTC, Tanya’s services are not typically covered by extended health insurance benefits. Clients seeking insurance-covered counselling are encouraged to contact Affinity to explore available options.
