Your first visit

When you arrive at Affinity Wellness for your initial appointment, you will be asked to fill out a health history form and discuss direct billing with your insurance company. This form provides our practitioners with important information about your health and helps them to determine the best course of treatment for you. Please be as detailed and honest as possible when filling out this form. Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment so this does not interfere with your scheduled time with your health care practitioner.

After your initial consultation, your practitioner will develop a treatment plan specifically for you. This plan may include a combination of different modalities, such as massage therapy, kinesiology, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, dietetics, counselling, or you may need to involve an occupational therapist to help with more complex cases.

At Affinity Wellness in Kelowna, BC, our goal is to provide you with the best possible care so that you can reach your health and wellness goals. We look forward to working with you!

Starting your massage session

Your massage therapist will review your form, meet you and take you to your treatment room. They will ask about the reason(s) you are coming for massage, your current physical condition and any specific areas you would like to focus on during your treatment. Your therapist will leave the room while you undress to your comfort level.

This varies for patients. Some prefer to remain partially clothed while others will completely disrobe. Either is fine. After undressing, you will lie under the top sheet on the massage table.

Your therapist will knock on the door to assure you are ready before re-entering the room.

You will always be draped with the top sheet and your therapist will only uncover the part of your body they are working on, ensuring your modesty is respected during your session.

Make the most of your appointment time. Your time starts as soon as you enter your treatment room. Try to be concise when discussing treatment with your therapist and disrobe quickly.

During your session

Start of your session

At the start of your treatment, your therapist will ask you to let them know if you are, at any time, uncomfortable during your session. Everyone is different. Communicate with your therapist regarding pressure or any other aspect which may improve your session. Your therapist will appreciate your feedback.

No pain, no gain? It is not true that massage therapy has to be painful to be effective. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is no pain and 10 is extremely painful, the pressure should always be less than 7. Some of the most effective types of massage therapy are gentle and do not involve deep pressure or pain. In fact, too much pressure can cause muscles to seize up.

End of your session

Once your session is complete, your therapist will leave the room so you may re-dress. Depending on your treatment, your therapist may allow time to go over any recommendations, exercises or stretches. This time is included as part of your session.

Hydrating after your massage

One of the most important things you can do after a massage is to hydrate. Massage therapy releases toxins from your muscles, and hydrating helps to flush them out of your system. Drinking plenty of water will also help to keep your muscles healthy and prevent soreness. So make sure to drink up after your next massage!
