Kinesiology in Kelowna

Kinesiology is the study of how the body moves. At Affinity Family Wellness, your kinesiologist uses that knowledge to build a personalized, hands-on exercise program that helps you recover from injury, manage an ongoing condition, or simply move and feel stronger in everyday life. It’s an active form of rehabilitation — you do the work, guided by someone trained in exactly how your body moves and heals.

What happens during an appointment?

Your first visit is a 60-minute assessment. Your kinesiologist will talk with you about your health history, your concerns, and what you’d like to achieve, then assess your movement, strength, and range of motion to understand where your body is compensating or struggling. Because the body is connected, the area that needs work isn’t always the same as the area where you feel pain.

From there, your kinesiologist builds a personalized exercise program designed to rebuild strength, stability, balance, and confidence in movement. Your first treatment and a home-care plan both start on day one, and your program evolves as you progress.

Exploring Kinesiology:

Understanding When It Becomes the Ideal First Choice for Treatment

Kinesiology can be a good starting point if you already have a diagnosis or a clear sense of what’s going on, and what you need most is a structured, guided exercise program to rebuild strength and confidence — rather than hands-on treatment to reduce pain first.

When to Consider Other Treatments Over Kinesiology

If you’re in acute pain, dealing with a new injury that hasn’t been assessed, or need hands-on treatment before exercise feels manageable, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, or massage therapy may be a better place to start. Many patients move into kinesiology once that initial pain has settled and the focus shifts to rebuilding strength and function.

Collaborative Benefits of Kinesiology

Kinesiology often follows physiotherapy, chiropractic care, or occupational therapy — once pain is reduced, kinesiology helps rebuild the strength and stability needed to stay better. Affinity’s kinesiologists regularly coordinate with your other practitioners, so your exercise program supports the rest of your care plan, rather than working in isolation.

Active vs. Passive Care in Kinesiology: Which Approach is Right for You?

Kinesiology is active care. You are an active participant in every session — doing the exercises, building the program together with your kinesiologist, and taking home a plan that keeps progress going between visits.
